Whatever the concern, we change lives with every plan, every step, every support - together.
What is Positive Behaviour Support?
At Positive Behaviour Supports QLD, we believe every person deserves to feel safe, understood, and supported. Our Positive Behaviour Support services are designed to help individuals reduce behaviours of concern and build skills that lead to greater confidence, stronger relationships, and an improved quality of life.
We take a collaborative, person-centred approach—working closely with each participant, their families, and support teams to understand their needs and goals. From there, we develop a tailored Positive Behaviour Support Plan and provide the right tools and training to make those strategies work in real life.
Our team brings a wealth of experience working with children, young people, adults and older clients across a wide range of needs and abilities. We support people with all types of disabilities and behaviours, including soon those where restrictive practices are in place. Our practitioners are trauma-informed, evidence-based, bringing diverse skills to also support more complex needs such as children in care, mental health, or aged care.
We’re committed to ongoing learning, and our practitioners participate in regular professional development to stay up to date with best practices.
We often work alongside other allied health professionals to ensure supports are well-coordinated and meaningful for each participant. If you’re looking for positive behaviour support, we’re here to help. You can explore our services below or get in touch to chat with our friendly team.
Our Services
Positive Behaviour Support Assessment and Plan
We provide comprehensive behaviour support assessments for participants who are experiencing behaviours of concern. This process involves working closely with the participant, their support network, and relevant stakeholders to understand the underlying causes and contributing factors of the behaviours.
Following the assessment, we develop an individualised, evidence-informed Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) that outlines practical, positive strategies to reduce or eliminate the behaviours of concern. The plan is designed to improve quality of life, promote skill development, and enhance the participant’s ability to engage meaningfully in their daily life and community.
Our approach is trauma-informed, person-centred, and respectful of the participant’s dignity, ensuring that all strategies are tailored to their strengths, needs, and goals.
Reduction of Restrictive Practices
We are committed to the safe, ethical, and evidence-based reduction of restrictive practices in line with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s Positive Behaviour Support Framework.
As part of our behaviour support services, we assess the use of any current restrictive practices and work collaboratively with participants, families, and support teams to explore safer, positive alternatives. Our focus is on building skills, increasing independence, and improving quality of life, with the aim of reducing or eliminating restrictive practices where appropriate and safe to do so.
All recommendations are guided by the principles of least restrictive alternatives, human rights, and the dignity of risk, ensuring participants are supported in the most respectful and empowering way possible.
Ongoing Behaviour Support and Training
We offer ongoing behaviour support to ensure effective implementation of strategies outlined in the Behaviour Support Plan. This includes regular intervention sessions, monitoring progress, and adapting strategies as needed to support meaningful, lasting change.
A key part of this service is training and coaching for families, support staff, and other stakeholders involved in the participant’s life. We work collaboratively to build the capacity of those around the participant, ensuring consistent, informed, and confident support across all environments.
Our goal is to empower families and support teams with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to respond effectively to behaviours of concern, reinforce positive behaviour, and promote the participant’s independence and wellbeing.
Recommendation Letters for NDIS Plan Review
We provide detailed Recommendation Letters that supply the NDIA with clear, evidence-based support for a participant’s need for additional supports or equipment within their NDIS plan.
These letters are carefully prepared based on thorough assessments and collaboration with the participant and their support network. They clearly outline the rationale and justification for requested items or services, helping to strengthen funding applications and ensure participants receive the resources they need to achieve their goals.
Our Recommendation Letters are designed to be comprehensive, professionally written, and aligned with NDIS guidelines, increasing the likelihood of funding approval.
